What Is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive-behavioral therapy developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to help individuals manage emotions, handle stress, and improve relationships. Initially aimed at treating borderline personality disorder, DBT is now used for various mental health issues, including cPTSD, depression,  and anxiety. It focuses on four key skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, blending cognitive-behavioral techniques with Eastern mindfulness practices.

DBT involves individual therapy, group skills training, and telephone coaching to help people learn and apply coping skills, aiming to enhance life quality by reducing suffering and increasing moments of joy.

Difficult situations, whether they are personal conflicts or work-related issues, can often lead us to develop unproductive habits and behaviors that do not support our wellbeing in the long run. If you’re weary of this repetitive cycle and ready for change, you’re in good company.

People who are emotionally sensitive frequently turn to impulsive behaviors as a coping mechanism for intense emotional distress. Although this provides a temporary solution, it’s an understandable reaction given the circumstances.
